Marketplace – more brands and new categories

Dawid Lewandowicz Product Owner

Our company used to work fully in a 1P model. What does this mean? Our entire assortment was located in our warehouses – we bought it and resold it. In the summer of 2022, we launched a new 3P sales platform for our customers in Poland and created a marketplace where our partners can sell products directly to our customers.

Why have we chosen such a form of the marketplace:
  1. The vendors want to operate in such a model. Over 1,000 companies interested in cooperation have contacted us.
  2. We have over 600 brands in our offer and we want to add more. Cooperation in the marketplace model will help us grow even faster. Thanks to it, our customers are always going to find exactly what they’re looking for in MODIVO.
  3. Our current partners asked us about providing these functionalities themselves. Bestsellers and new collections are still going to be available directly with us. Older and less popular products are going to be sold in a 3P form.
  4. The marketplace has allowed us to introduce completely new categories – health & beauty and interior furnishings.
  5. Inquiry research agency reports that the share of marketplaces in the world’s e-commerce market amounts already to 62% and may go up in the next years to 75%. This is another reason why MODIVO has opened itself to this operation model.
We will be using our own resources and solutions available on the market to build new functionalities. It’s an enormous challenge in operational terms. We work in a microservice architecture. First of all, we put emphasis on high efficiency and reliability in terms of our solutions. The marketplace has generated many changes in our current architecture and has been connected with great challenges. New services have been implemented and some services have had to evolve. If we see space, we apply hexangular architecture with utilisation of the Domain Driven Design. The marketplace domain is complicated – a lot of processes are going on there – the understanding and implementation of which is a considerable challenge, yet one giving a lot of satisfaction.
